Huge congratulations to Bob Knight for reaching his 40 years service working nights – all at Dove Holes Quarry. Bob has only ever worked the night shift since starting on 13th Nov 1978.
The picture is of Robert (or Bob as he’s known) receiving his Institute of Quarrying medal for 40 years service in the Quarrying Industry from Night Shift Manager, Liam Perkins.
On his first night in 1978 Bob can remember being issued with steel toe cap boots, hard hat and a donkey jacket; there were no hi-vis in those days.
During the 40 years Bob says: “The Quarry has become a better and safer place to work, but there aren’t the characters that there once was.”
Bob will be putting his CEMEX gift towards a new car as he is a ‘proper petrol head’ by his own admission.
