John Macsween Smith and the team at Kilbarchan Asphalt site had an unusual request from the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit who turned up with something unusual in a Tupperware box.
Last week the Bomb Disposal Unit arrived on site and asked if they could set up a controlled explosion of a World War II hand grenade that had been handed in that morning to the local police station. The Plant is on a disused Quarry just outside of the town of Johnstone.
Site Manager, Tony Mcnamee, received the visitors and their unusual Tupperware box containing the grenade and quickly sought permission for the site to be used. The grenade was safely detonated.
