Vince Williams (IHC) and Darren Haward (Sales Rep) Readymix Cluster 15. Vince and Darren ‘Stepped-in’ to prevent a potentially serious outcome on a customer site; persevering when faced with initial resistance they ultimately helped to change customer behaviour.

Vince Williams was delivering to a PJ Carey on the old Vauxhall Car Plant site in Luton which is being redeveloped. The Foreman climbed up the truck ladder and leaning into the drum he started to add water from a pressure washer (on site to wash truck wheels down before going off site). Vince took a picture of the individual and forwarded it to Nick and Darren so that we were are of the unsafe practice taking place. Darren phoned Vince to get all the details then contacted Sue McNamara from PJ Carey’s Buying office raising our concerns. She immediately forwarded the details and picture on to the site. We are advised by the drivers that the practice has ceased. What is pleasing is that Vince did try to stop the activity at the time and then took further action when he was ignored. Similarly, Darren immediately took up the matter with his buying contact which supported Vince’s action.
