First Ever UK Sustainability Award

Apologies to Peter Hember for incorrectly writing what he won his first ever CEMEX UK Sustainability Award for in the last edition of UK News.  Peter actually won the award after himself and members of his Team often found that doors were propped open for convenience around the Plants. They installed a simple switch on the doors which switch off the heaters. Along with a thermostatic control, this saves considerable energy, is simple to install and easily replicated across most sites.

Andy Spencer, UK Sustainability Director, commented: “The quality and volume of entries was fantastic, with brilliant and simple improvements being made throughout our business to improve our Environmental Profit and Loss, and to help our business overall being Best for Communities. Some examples were:

  • Laboratory aggregate drying ovens connected to timer switches turning off ovens out of working hours.
  • Designing and installing a new and comprehensive dust suppression system.
  • Replenishing the beach at Bournemouth.
  • A new fuel monitoring system has been installed onto the Sand Falcon dredger.
  • And many more!”
