John Beard, Site Manager at Stourton Depot Asphalt and Coating Plant, is raising money to support a close friend’s son, Joseph, who is 26 years old and has just had a heart transplant operation.
He had been in Newcastle hospital for the last 10 weeks suffering from heart failure.
Last week they found a compatable donor and Joseph had the transplant on Jan 20th. He is doing well and the heart is beating independently. He obviously has a long way to go still, but the surgeons are pleased with the progress and every small step counts.
He will have to be in hospital for several months and this comes with inevitable costs so John and his wife are helping to raise money to support Joseph and his family.
