Volunteering as One CEMEX…..

…so that we build a better future for everyone.

Leaving your mark on the world is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. Leaving a legacy where you live and work, is a big part of what makes a community great.

CEMEX UK has a strong legacy of helping the community through the Lend-a-hand programme. To build onto this legacy, we are embracing the global volunteering programme known as CEMEX Unite.

CEMEX Unite is our corporate volunteering strategy and unifies the way we collaborate across all CEMEX sites globally. We collaborate guided by our values, skills, time and interests to generate a positive impact on the world. Through volunteering, we can improve the quality of life and wellbeing of communities around us. You can find out more about CEMEX Unite here.

With all employees subject to lockdown restrictions for the greater part of two years, volunteering in groups presents a great opportunity not only for increasing your “feel good hormones” but it also allows you to reconnect with your team members in a different and exciting environment.

According to Helpguide.org volunteering provides various benefits to mental and physical health and listed below are some of the benefits:

  • Counteracting the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety through the social contact created by volunteering. Making a meaningful connection to another person has been known to reduce stress.
  • Volunteering keeps you in regular contact with others and this helps you build a solid support system which in turn protects you against depression.
  • Volunteering makes you happy – by measuring hormones and brain activity, research has shown that helping others can make us happy.

Here are some options for volunteering:

  • Identify a local volunteering activity, set up a volunteering team and contact Social Impact to assist with coordination.
  • Set up a team and get social impact to assist you in identifying an activity.
  • You can also explore which volunteering activities suit you. Most community centres can provide guidance on volunteering activities.
  • Remember to get approval from your Supervisor to allow you to volunteer.

There is no better time to volunteer than the present. You can also register a volunteer activity on CEMEX UNITE volunteer and get more members to sign up or simply contact the Social Impact team to get help on setting up a volunteering activity.

We would love to know what you are doing so please share your pictures of your volunteering activity. That way we can amplify the business’s efforts in building a better future.

Today we want to remind you that you are a key part in building a better future for everyone and there is no better way to demonstrate this than getting involved in volunteering.
