New ‘Econic’ Tipper Trials

Last week saw the new Econic tipper visit Thorpe.  It has been designed by Mercedes-Benz and CEMEX is trialling it for the next 2-3 months.  Its extra deep windscreen (50% greater than the windscreen on a standard vehicle) and glass passenger door with ‘low entry concept’ i.e. the cab is closer to the ground, gives the driver much greater visibility.  Paul Clarke and Carl Milton from the Logistics Team have worked with Mercedes-Benz to ensure that this truck has all the standard ‘safety’ features of our trucks…. mirrors, signage, proximity sensors and cameras.  In addition, the low entry concept means only 2 steps for the driver to climb to get into the cab making it much easier to get in and out of the cab so there’s less chance of slips and falls.

This step forward in vehicle design must surely help save lives on our busy roads.
