Pedometer Challenge Kicks Off…..

The Pedometer Challenge starts this week, with a record 927 people taking part from 95 teams, all with the aim of walking 10,000 steps per day for the next 4 weeks.
Remember lots of activities count towards your 10,000 steps such as mowing the lawn, cleaning the car, grocery shopping (not the online type) and even cooking (counts for 61 steps a minute!)  So you could have a BBQ this weekend and burn up some steps at the same time!  Fancy trying a new activity – ever wanted to start ballet or wrestling??!!  It all counts…

With sun predicted this weekend you could plan a walk or other exercise with the family, such as cycling, or perhaps set up walking groups with colleagues at lunchtimes or after work.

With 75% of CEMEX employees over weight (of those health screened), we need to get moving more.  There is strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help us lead a healthier and happier life.  People who do regular activity have a lower risk of many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, stroke and some cancers.  Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing the risk of stress, depression and dementia.
