Merry Christmas ….Have A Happy Safe Christmas

As 2016 comes to a close I wish to thank you for your hard work this year as a vital member of the CEMEX UK Team. I would also like to share some thoughts about our progress to be BEST for each of our 5 key stakeholders in 2016 and our challenges for 2017:

FAMILIES: Our first priority every day is to ensure we all go home safely to our families with ZERO harm. In 2016 I am sad to say our safety performance worsened with increases in incidents resulting in some of our colleagues being injured. These incidents hurt their families and friends as well as themselves. We must all try our best to stop injuries and get back to ZERO. The vast majority of our sites have long incident-free performances so we know we can do it. Please continue to look after yourself and your colleagues, STOP and THINK every time you start a new task and STEP IN if you see any unsafe behaviour. We also focused on health and wellbeing in 2016, with a record number of people taking the Pedometer Challenge and an excellent take-up of self-health checks at many sites. We will continue to focus on this in 2017.

CUSTOMERS: Our CEO Fernando Gonzalez has made Customer Focus a key priority for CEMEX globally, and we in the UK continue to lead doing a number of projects designed to give a better service to our customers. For example, we are introducing Customer Journey Experience visits which will be a big part of our customer service plan next year, with senior managers regularly meeting with our customer-facing staff and customers. Also, we will offer more new services, products and digital innovations. We still have many opportunities to improve our Customer’s experience with CEMEX and we will work hard next year to support you to better serve our customers.

EMPLOYEES: Early in the year we saw some very positive results from the Engagement Survey in late 2015. Thank you for giving us your views by participating in this Survey. We have worked on actions to improve communication, serve customers more easily and reduce wasteful or unproductive tasks. We are a hard-working business and we still have many challenges but I’m confident that the recent Engagement PULSE Check will help us improve further by converting your “Voices into Actions” in 2017.

COMMUNITIES: Our Lend-A-Hand days continue to provide great opportunities for all of us to do some voluntary work with local communities and charities, and I encourage you to make use of the day available each year and do something with your colleagues. Environmental incidents have increased compared to last year so please stay alert and do your best to protect the communities in which we operate and get back to an incident free performance next year.

SHAREHOLDERS: The EU Referendum result caused some uncertainty in the UK economy but by focusing on delivering our budget, I am confident we will achieve our CVA+ goal in 2016 thanks to your commitment and hard work. This will put CEMEX UK in a much better position for future growth and makes us more attractive for investment. 2017 will be a more challenging year, and so we need to give our customers better products and better services so we can continue to grow.

Thanks again for your hard work throughout 2016. Please also extend my gratitude to your families for their support. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the Roadshows in January.
